Our Technology: Smartphone-based, blood-less spectrometer-less hemoglobin analyzer (sHEA)
If low hemoglobin level is assessed in a timely and reliable manner, community health workers in rural villages can significantly enhance blood health awareness and reduce the morbidity and mortality caused by low hemoglobin level.
For anemia assessments, several smartphone-based technologies have made progress, but require a mandatory attachment to the smartphone. Moreover, these are not capable of measuring exact blood hemoglobin content in the unit of grams per deciliter (g/dL). As a result, the current technologies for non-invasively measuring blood hemoglobin levels without blood sampling are significantly limited.
Smartphone-Based Mobile Application
To address this problem, we have developed from our lab a smartphone-based mobile application the can provide accurate and precise readings of blood hemoglobin levels from a photo of the eyelid. Our technology is centered in data-driven computational spectroscopy assisted by statistical and machine learning for spectrometer-free, yet spectral, analyses of blood hemoglobin via the eyelid.
Spectral Super-Resolution Spectroscopy
We introduce non-invasive mHealth spectroscopy to extract spectrally encoded microvascular and blood information from the eyelid. Spectral super-resolution methodology virtually transforms the built-in camera of any low-end smartphone into a hyperspectral imager for spectroscopic analyses; spectral learning enables mathematical reconstruction of detailed reflectance spectra from the raw photo images.
